Walk to Cure Psoriasis

I have a friend. His name is Tim Yuen. He has a friend. His name is Tim Yuen. No, that’s not a typo. Tim’s friend has the same name as him. Tim has psoriatic arthritis. Tim, my friend’s friend. Okay, this is starting to get confusing. (You can click on Tim’s name (whichever one you want) to read their stories.)

I feel like there every few weeks I get news about some friend, or friend’s friend, or relative, or someone who is diagnosed with some sort of illness, disease, cancer… And I think to myself, that could be me. Even if no treatment is available, what would I want others to do for me, if they can do nothing else except offer words of encouragement and prayers?

While there is still no cure for many illnesses, research is being done everyday to find a cure. I can’t find a cure. I didn’t study medicine or biotech. I can’t even begin to offer ideas on how to go about finding a cure. It is beyond my thinking of how to even create a drug or treatment for these illnesses. So what can I do? I can walk.

My goal for the year was to do a 5k run, but I have yet to find one that works out for our schedule. (I know, excuses, excuses. No shaking your head at me JL! You know who you are.) But how awesome it is that I have the opportunity to do two 5k walks within 2 months of each other to help raise funds to find a cure that could help someone that I know!!

On Saturday, June 25, our family, along with Tim and Tim’s families, will be participating in the Walk to Cure Psoriasis.

Some of you who heard Andy’s story became a part of his story. Now, you can be a part of Tim’s story as well.

Pray. You can pray for Tim. Luckily, he has find treatment that has brought him relief, but I can imagine that sometimes everyday tasks may be more laborious than they should be. Pray also for the other 7.5 million Americans who are dealing with psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis.

Pray. You can pray for Norm and I, and all the others doing the Walk, that we will be safe and that we will have strength to endure. (Who knew that our last 5k walk would take a few hours?!? It took us 30 minutes to reach the starting line because there were so many people.)

Give. We are doing this walk to raise funds for the National Psoriasis Foundation. This will allow them to continue to do their research. This will allow them to reach their five-year strategic plan. Even if you only have a dollar or two to offer, that would make a difference. Your donation is not necessary, but would be greatly appreciated.

I am excited that Norm and the girls will be able of the walk this time. I want the girls to learn that while we can not solve the world’s problems by ourselves, we can still make a difference.

– Joyce

P.S. For those of you who are a part of Andy’s story, thank you for lifting him and his family up in prayers. Andy is finishing up his chemo/radiation in the next week. He is in good spirits and was able to attend Yvonne’s cousin’s wedding this past weekend in San Francisco. Pray that the Lord grants Him strength to complete his treatment and that the tumor’s growth will come to a halt.
