sfbaybannerNext we will share about some place in San Leandro, where Joyce grew up.

San Leandro Farmers’ Market

There are 2 farmers’ markets in San Leandro that are open weekly throughout the year. There is one downtown, but we usually go to the one at Bayfair Center on Saturdays. Whenever you drive up to the market, you can smell yummy food. You can see a few photos HERE and HERE.

Halcyon Park

Halcyon Park is a great place for kids to ride their bikes around the path, or to take a walk, if you want. There is an enclosed play area for younger ones, with a car table, and another play area for older kids. There is a field inside the bike/walking path where kids can play soccer.

Marina Park

I think there are 2 play structures at Marina Park, but we usually go to the one for younger kids. There are lots of walking/running/biking paths. You can watch the airplanes take off or land, or watch the boats and kayaks. In more recent years, there have been geese around. There is a volleyball sand pit. During Easter, there is the annual egg hunt. You can see a few photos HERE.

Washington Manor Park & Pool

This is our usual spot if we end up at the Manor branch library storytime on Thursdays. This the area for smaller kids, and there is a structure for older ones as well. There is also a basketball court. It is great to ride a bike along the path or push a stroller. We took swim lessons at the pool back in the day before it is how it looks now. No pics, but you can probably do a Google search to find it. There are also tennis courts. After the park, we usually head to the Chinese Bakery for some yummy pastries. You can see more pics from 2009, 2010, and 2012.

San Leandro Main Library

There are so many great program at the San Leandro Main Library. I can go on and on, but we certainly enjoy the Summer Reading Program the most! You can see some photos from playing with blocks HERE, Warriors reading night HERE, and summer reading program 2010, 2011, and 2012.

And next year, both of the girls will be performing in A Year with Frog and Toad. Melody is Mouse and Emily is the bird chorus. You can see more photos of Winnie the Pooh Kids HERE. Our Week in Photos (Week 12 of 52)

Last Week
On Saturday, we had friends from church over. They have 2 little girls. One is a little older than Melody. They had so much fun. We did make-your-own quesadillas with our quesadilla maker, and Melody seemed to really enjoy it. We made wraps with the rest of the tortilla, and let’s just say that we’ve found a new favorite food for our little girl. I think we might be able to stick anything in there and she’ll eat it…but she’s not really picky about her food anyhow (thank goodness!)

This Week
I had my appointment on Monday. It went well. My doctor got me out of jury duty. hehe Norm may need to go in next Wednesday. Oh, we also celebrated the 1st anniversary of being homeowners!! On Tuesday, we celebrated my birthday early with Vietnamese food at Le Soleil and a free scoop of ice cream at Baskin Robbins. A big CONGRATULATIONS to our friends Dawn and Brandon on the birth of their 2nd baby. Tyler is a big brother to Baby Katherine (Katie)!!! Now we’re just waiting for the other Tyler to be a big brother…any day now. It was an exceptionally sunny day out on Wednesday, so we went to the park after storytime, and Melody did not want to leave. She actually enjoyed doing laps (like her Uncle Bakkie) around the play area and watching the kids, but did play on the structure for awhile. Yesterday, we visited with my mom for our birthday. Yes, we have the same birthday. Week 12 of 52

Upcoming
Thanks to all the Company Girls who have been praying for us. Norm has a first round interview this upcoming Monday for the position that he had the phone interview for last Friday. We’re signed up for the Sibling Celebration and the tour at the hospital. Less than 70 days left now…just counting down. Melody is doing a lot better with her anxiety.

Updated
We added a few photos to Week 11 of 52. There was a break from the rain, and it has been rather nice out lately. My dad came over last week to help us start our vegetable garden. Hopefully, we’ll have a plentiful harvest this year, but not so much of the tomatoes because I lost count after 200+.
