Enjoy Your Life More in 10 Days

enjoy your life
Earlier this year, we were able to take a family vacation to Australia. It was 2.5 weeks of fun and adventures and rest! It was wonderful! If you know me, you know I’m a list person…not because there are lots of things to do (although there really is!), but because I’m forgetful. :p Anyhow, I didn’t even think about the lists when we were gone. I figure after a week I would be readjusted to our “usual” routine, but I didn’t. It is not five months later, and I know I can not continue to stay on this hamster wheel of life…running and running, but going nowhere.

I have really enjoyed the sermon series, as well as the discussion in our growth group, at church this summer. I have wanted to really dig into the spiritual disciplines since college, but everyone else wanted to study something else. Anyhow, I won’t go into the actual discussion on the disciplines of prayer, fasting, simplicity, solitude, service, worship, and celebration. But hearing and reading about how Jesus lived his life, and in turn, how we should live ours to the fullest, the listmaker in me needed something to help me practically live out these disciplines. Enter Kayse Pratt’s new ecourse, Enjoy Your Life!!

11836764_10100419746741530_9148402556107208211_nBy the way, I actually did a really good job of packing for our 2.5-week trip down under. I packed less than I usually do for trips just a few hours away in the same state. But when I returned from Australia, the pic above was exactly how I felt. It is how I feel now, but I am finding that breathing room now, thanks to Kayse! Putting down all the things bouncing around in my brain, and sorting out my “have to”s, “love to”s, and “should do”s, and doing it step-by-step was super helpful. It feels great to have a plan and set some boundaries for what I say yes or no to when it comes to adding something on my calendar.

Centenarian Longevity Celebration

My cousin posted this on FB already, but for those of you who aren’t on there, here’s a pic from the On Lok centenarian longevity celebration. My grandma, who will be 108 this year, is the eldest of this group (the 3rd from the left). She is still as sharp as ever, so we better visit her soon. She’s probably keeping track in her head how many times each of us have visited. :p

Here’s an interview for the local Chinese news station. Both her and the other lady that was interviewed shared that they read the Bible every day. My granny also said she eats a lot of fruits, but if you ask me, her secret to long life is eating chicken skin and Chinese bacon. I was going to do a translation for you, but it’s a little late for that sort of thing for my brain. :p My dad was also interviewed. Check it out!

1000 Gifts {February}

When I posted about the journals that I got for our family to count our blessings, a few people asked how we are doing that.

dayspring journalsIf you have read One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp, you know “Ann encourages you to make each day a holy experience, and to live life being alive to the blessings, the gifts, and the moments that God gives and invites you to embrace.” Ann has a Joy Dare on our site which gives prompts for 3 gifts a day, resulting in 1000 gifts by the end of the year.

We are just keeping it simple, and doing what the girls have been doing for the past 2 years. At the end of each night, we talk about our favorite part of the day, and what was a blessing to us that day. Sometimes it’s things, like Rainbow Loom, a DVD we watched, or chicken salad. Sometimes it’s people, like our friends, our family, or those we have blessed. And other times it’s special moments, like riding our bikes together, performing on stage, or celebrating a birthday.

Below is a peek into our journals. We date and write one blessing for each day. When 2015 starts, we will turn to the first page again, and under 1/1/14, we will write 1/1/15 and add our new blessings, and we can also remember our blessings from exactly a year ago.

(In case you can’t read ours, I wrote, “Other adults in my kids’ lives who value who they are” and Norm wrote, “Playtime with the kids.”)

Besides journaling, writing cards has always helped me gain an attitude of gratitude. It is not something that I have much time for these days, but would love to get back into the habit of doing. Dayspring is having a few specials that you ought to take advantage of if you want to write cards to say thanks or happy day! 🙂

The card sets are Buy 2 Get 1 Free right now. There is a cute Peanuts set, which comes with sticker sheets too!!! And you guess it, I love stickers too!! And since Norm’s “groom” “I Do” mug broke, my “bride” “I Do” mug is starting to get a bit lonely. These Mr. and Mrs. mugs will be a great replacement.

1000 Gifts {January}

If you know me, you know I LOVE LOVE LOVE journaling! I don’t do it as much anymore, but I can’t pass by the journal section at Ross without taking a look at what they have! So what did the get my family for Christmas? Journals, of course!

dayspring journalsIf you have read One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp, you know “Ann encourages you to make each day a holy experience, and to live life being alive to the blessings, the gifts, and the moments that God gives and invites you to embrace.” Melody and Emily have been tracking their gifts for 2 years now. I attempted it last year, and did not succeed. I had tried to write it out on the printable pages and I tried typing it out in my email and blogging, but it just didn’t work out. The girls also have a love for journals, so I figured that they can graduate from writing their gifts out on binder paper to some lovely journals. I found the perfect ones for each of us on Dayspring!!

I wanted to share this, so that we (Norm and I, because the girls have it down already) will stay accountable to tracking our gifts, the blessings of the daily things of life. And I also wanted to let you know that if you want to grow your attitude of gratitude, Dayspring is having a 30% off sale on their journals!! There are a lot to choose from, but these are the ones we have. Aren’t they great? Make sure to click on the link to see the pages too.
