What We’re Eating: Egg Custard Pie

We bought some pie crusts on sale with a coupon (Notice a trend? We seriously save so much using coupons though!), so we’ve been on pie mode. I had a craving for egg pie. (Don’t think too much on that statement. I always have cravings. I eat. A lot.) My mom used to make this all the time. I could not find a decent recipe online, but THIS ONE sufficed.

I’m not sure where we went wrong (actually I do, I didn’t soften the butter enough) but once the egg got going, it became lumpy. It just didn’t look right at all. We decided to still give it a try and it actually turned out really good! A little sweet for those of us without a sweet tooth though. I would suggest using less sugar. The look of the pie needs improvement for sure.

And in case you don’t want to read the comments in the post, the author is not detailed in her ingredient descriptions. It should be half cup butter and 18 oz evaporated milk.

I have seen other recipes for this that is completely different (calls for honey and cornstarch?), but I guess comes out the same.

Does anyone buy egg pie from Goldilocks? =p
