Hey Sugar….Cookie

I have never baked cookies in my 29 years of life. I have helped other make cookies…okay, not really. I have watched other bake cookies…using my mixer too. :p I’ve helped to eat cookies mostly. I have baked quick breads, pies, muffins, I’ve made cheesecake once, but never cookies. I have no idea why. Maybe I was intimidated by what I could do with them. I had no cookie sheets. I don’t have a real rolling pin. I had no patience to wait for the dough to chill. Really, I have no idea why. I just never made cookies.

Finally, I decided to take the plunge and do it. Norm got some cookie sheets during Black Friday. I found a super easy recipe. I didn’t even need a rolling pin, or cookie cutters for that matter. No chilling either! Wow! I think to myself that I could do this.

Seriously, this is all you need for this recipe – EASY SUGAR COOKIES.

Recruit a cute little helper.
Make sure your oven is preheating to 375 degrees F.
In a small bowl, stir flour + baking soda + baking powder.

Recruit another helper (so you can take photos of the process).
Uncle Bakkie was here this day, so he was the lucky one forced to do chosen for the job.
In a large bowl, mix butter + sugar until smooth. + egg + vanilla

Add dry ingredients.

Assure the audience they will get to try some cookies after the show is over, unless they are not of age.

“Mommy, where are the cookies?”

Roll into dough balls and place on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake 8 minutes. Let stand on cookie sheet for 2 minutes before removing to cool on wire racks.

Here are the cookies on the plate that our neighbors gave us last year filled with goodies.

I will remember to soften the butter next time (unless I want an arm workout again), and will definitely use my KitchenAid mixer, although if you don’t have a mixer and if the butter is softened, it is fine, and it’ll just take a few extra minutes to get it all mixed together. Seriously, so easy. Try it! And then give me some to taste test and make sure you did it right. I’m not sure I can brave doing frosting and all of that yet.

Does anyone have any great cookie recipes that I can try? You know how I like my recipes…1) With few ingredients 2) With ingredients I would normally have on hand 3) Doesn’t take a lot of time.
